American Airlines announced daily nonstop service between Tulsa International Airport (TUL) and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) will begin on April 2, 2019.
The announcement follows a lengthy, strategic effort by airport, Tulsa Regional Chamber and City of Tulsa officials to secure daily nonstop service to Tulsa’s second most popular destination – the Los Angeles Basin.
“The addition of LAX service is a great win for Tulsa," said Tulsa International Airport C.E.O. Mark VanLoh. "With nearly 600 people a day traveling between the two cities, this will absolutely be a popular flight with Tulsa travelers.”
"Part of making Tulsa more nationally competitive is being more nationally connected. The addition by American Airlines of daily direct flights connecting Tulsa and Los Angeles improves our connectivity with one of the world's great financial centers,” Mayor G.T. Bynum said. “This is a big win for Tulsa businesses, and for the good people of Los Angeles who now will have better access to all Tulsa has to offer."
“Adding more direct flights is a strategic initiative of the Tulsa Regional Chamber,” said Chamber President and CEO Mike Neal. “When our economic development staff meet with members and site selectors to work on business retention and expansion projects, the need for more direct flights is always a big part of the conversation, and Los Angeles is the most requested business destination. Adding LAX is a tremendous win for the local business community.”
“American Airlines has demonstrated their commitment to the Tulsa community with the addition of this service,” said Tulsa Airport Authority board chair and Tulsa’s Future vice chair Jeff Stava. “I’m thankful to American for making this investment and look forward to continuing our work with them to improve connectivity for Tulsa travelers.”
